STAUNTON – The new Route 624 (Morgan Ford Road) bridge over the Shenandoah River in Warren County is scheduled to open Monday, January 22nd. Traffic using Route 624 between Route 643 (Howellsville Road) and Route 661 (Fairgrounds Road) has been detoured since April 2016 due to bridge construction. Those detours will be lifted mid-morning on January 22nd. The new two-lane bridge over the Shenandoah River will be open to traffic, but contractors continue work on the Route 624 project through late spring. This includes a final layer of asphalt on the bridge approaches, installation of final pavement markings, aesthetic treatments on the bridge railings, grading and seeding on both sides of the bridge, and construction of a parking area on the south side of the river.
