The heaviest single piece of equipment for the Warren County Power Station – the steam turbine generator stator – arrived by rail Monday at the Virginia Inland Port a few miles from the station construction site. The journey from Norfolk Southern’s Lamberts Point Docks in Norfolk is a four-day rail trip across Virginia. The stator, the largest object ever unloaded at Lamberts Point, weighs 401 tons; it is more than 14 feet in diameter, almost 40 feet long and just more than 20 feet tall sitting on the rail car. The high-pressure and intermediate-pressure section of the steam turbine, which also was also on the special train, weighs 151 tons and is 27 feet long.

FRONT ROYAL -- Warren County officials, friends and family of the late John H. Smedley Sr. honored the longtime elected official on Friday. Smedley served as the County's Commissioner of the Revenue from 1988 until his unexpected death in August. More than a dozen family members, friends and colleagues attended the dedication of a bench installed along the trail at Eastham Park. A plaque will be installed in the near future, said County Administrator Douglas Stanley. The bench is one of four planned along the trail and the South Fork of the Shenandoah River.
