Beginning Drawing

When you first begin to draw, you will learn the purpose of various drawing materials and how to use them. Perspective and positive/negative space are two traditional and powerful concepts in drawing.

This class will be offered on Tuesdays, January 16, 2018 through February 20, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the Warren County Community Center, 538 Villa Avenue, Front Royal, Virginia 22630.

The cost of the class is $55.00 for the session or $10.00 per week. This class requires a minimum of five (5) participants and a maximum of thirteen (13) participants.

The class is open to anyone 14 years of age and older; anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Introduction to Lighting and Composition

Good photographers understand lighting and how it affects everything in the photo. You will look at good examples, bad examples, different ways light will affect your photos, and learn different composition techniques like the rule of thirds and others.

This class will be offered on Saturday, March 03, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Warren County Community Center, 538 Villa Avenue, Front Royal, Virginia 22630.

The cost of the class is $25.00 per participant.  This class requires a minimum of four (4) participants and a maximum of twenty (20) participants.

The class is open to anyone 12 years of age and older; anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Learning How to Shoot in Manual Mode

This class teaches the ever popular, “How do I get off of automatic mode?” Coming out of this class, students will have a good basis of understanding of the three main factors that go into manual settings and how to determine which ones to prioritize.  

This class will be offered on Saturday, March 03, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the Warren County Community Center, 538 Villa Avenue, Front Royal, Virginia 22630.

The cost of the class is $45.00 per participant.  This class requires a minimum of four (4) participants and a maximum of twenty (20) participants.

The class is open to anyone 12 years of age and older; anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

 

Easter EGGstravaganza

Parents, bring your kids and join the staff of the Warren County Parks and Recreation Department for an afternoon of Easter fun. Participants will play games, make crafts, and ride the “Cottontail Express” with the Easter Bunny to the egg hunting field. Each child will also get a professional picture with the Easter Bunny to take home.

This program will be held at the Warren County Health and Human Services Complex Cafe, 465 West 15th Street, Front Royal, Virginia 22630 on Saturday, March 24, 2018 starting at 2:00 p.m.

This program is for all ages and children under six (6) must be accompanied by an adult.           

The cost of the Easter EGGstravaganza is $10.00 per child.

Event is limited to 50 participants so pre-registration is recommended.

 

Level Up With Reading

Reading is not only fun but extremely rewarding to life. Warren County Parks and Recreation wants to be a part of rewarding you even further. Whether you are just learning to read or you are a frequent traveler of words, we want to cheer you on for every book you finish.

Each month starting January 02, 2018, you will be able to pick up a Level Up with Reading form to track how many books you read that month. At the end of the month, turn in your form and win a reward for the amount you’ve read. The more you read, the higher the level of reward you can win. So pick up a book and join the adventure!

Dates:  

  • Session 1: January 02 – January 31, 2018
  • Session 2: February 01 – February 28, 2018
  • Session 3: March 01 – March 31, 2018

This is a free for all ages, drop in program. No pre-registration is required.

Yarn-It!

 We invite you to join our very own “sewing circle” and get together with friends, family, and fellow craft-oholics in this free program. Bring along your knitting needles, crochet hooks, spinning wheels, carding paddles, and cross stitch panels. Trade patterns and even teach each other new skills while you share stories and laughs. 

Yarn-It! is open to all types of crafting projects from knitting to scrapbooking. We want you to get creative with what you love.

This program will be held on Fridays, 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. beginning January 05, 2018 through April 27, 2018 at the Warren County Health and Human Services Complex Band Room, 465 West 15th Street, Front Royal, Virginia 22630.

There is no cost to come out and craft; those persons 14 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Small children are welcome but are the responsibility of their guardian and will not be permitted to wander/play in the gym.

This is a drop in program; no pre-registration is required.

Mah Jongg “Players Club”

Players will enjoy several hands of Mah Jongg against skilled opponents.

This club meets on Tuesdays, January 02, 2018 through April 24, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the Warren County Health & Human Services Complex Band Room, 465 W. 15th Street, Front Royal, Virginia 22630.

The cost for the club is $8.00 per month pre-pay or $3.00 per day drop in at the door. Pre-payment can only be taken at the Warren County Community Center, 538 Villa Avenue, Front Royal, Virginia 22630.

Players must bring their own league card.

Mother-Son Dance Night

Calling all mothers! Trying to find the perfect way to bond with your son? The County of Warren Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a Mother-Son Dance Night, a special night just for moms and their sons. This semi-formal evening will include dancing, activities, and light refreshments.

Our boys grow up fast. Make some good memories that will last.

The Mother-Son Dance Night will be held 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Warren County Community Center, 538 Villa Avenue, Front Royal, Virginia 22630.

This program is for sons ages 12 years and younger.

The cost is $30.00 per couple; each additional son is $10.00, this includes one commemorative photo.

Dance Night is limited to 100 participants; pre-registration is required.

 

Father-Daughter Valentine Dance

Make memories that will last a lifetime during this special semi-formal event for fathers and daughters. Enjoy dancing, professional photobooth photos, light refreshments, chocolate desserts, and much more. They say a young girl’s first love is her father. This evening will allow dads to delight in their daughters before young girls become young women and show them how a gentleman should treat a lady.

Girls spend a special evening with your Valentine; bring your dad, uncle, big brother or a family friend.

This program is for daughters ages 12 years and younger.

The cost of the program is $30.00 each couple; $10.00 each additional daughter. This cost includes one commemorative photo.

The dance is limited to 100 participants; pre-registration is required.

Fencing Classes

This class covers the traditions and rules of fencing, physical conditioning, and beginning blade work and bouting, for foil and epee.

Classes meet weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, 5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., at the WC Health & Human Services Complex Café, 465 W. 15th Street, Front Royal, Virginia 22630. Classes are offered for those 10 years of age and older and adults are welcomed.

Piano Lessons

A fun and inspiring approach to piano and the basics of music so you can learn to read music, play by ear, and be creative at the keyboard. Both Classical and Pop music styles are offered. Playing piano helps develop the life skills of discipline, goal-setting, and independent learning. Private lessons are available for children and adults. Early afternoon lesson times are available for homeschool students.

Session Dates: January 2018 through April 2018.

Afternoon and evening classes are available Monday through Friday.
