Warren County Looking for Volunteers for Various Boards and Commissions

The County of Warren is looking for individuals that would be willing to serve on the Agricultural and Forestal District Committee and Warren County Airport Commission.

The Agricultural and Forestal District Committee is responsible for reviewing the Agricultural Districts and applications for entering and leaving the districts and making recommendations to the Board of Supervisors concerning the requests.  The purpose of an Agricultural/Forestal District is to “encourage the development and improvement of the Commonwealth’s agricultural and forestal lands for the production of food and other agricultural and forestal products…” and “to conserve and protect agricultural and forestal lands as valued natural and ecological resources which provide essential open space for clean air sheds, watershed protection, wildlife habitat, as well as for aesthetic purposes.”  There are currently three Agricultural Districts in Warren County (Rockland, South River and Limeton) totaling over 11,500 acres.  Individuals with a background and interest in farming, conservation and rural preservation are encouraged to apply.

The Airport Commission appointment will be to fill an unexpired term on the Board that expires on June 30, 2015.  The Airport Commission serves as an advisory board for the Board of Supervisors and County staff to make recommendations to County staff, user groups and organizations using the airport facilities concerning the operations, maintenance, planning and financing for the County’s airport facilities. The issues include facilities, property, operations, activities, planning, budgeting, usage, user fees and rules and regulations.  Individuals with a background and interest in aviation, business, marketing and related fields are encouraged to apply.

Both of these appointments are unpaid positions.

According to County Administrator Doug Stanley, “We have a number of openings throughout the year.  This is a great opportunity for residents to get involved in their local government.”
