Exercise Park at Rockland Park is Now Open

Warren County officials are pleased to announce the Exercise Equipment Park is now open to the public following the dedication ceremony held on Wednesday, May 2, 2018, in Rockland Park.
This new feature was made possible through the efforts of Christa Shifflett, Executive Director of the Warren Coalition, who submitted applications for several two (2) year Healthy Communities Action Team Grants from the Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth and Obesity Prevention. The funding from these grants is used to decrease obesity and increase activity among residents, particularly youth. The grant allowed the County’s Parks and Recreation Department to purchase and install the new ten (10) piece exercise equipment set next to Carson Trail #3 for the Warren County community.

Dan Lenz, Director of Parks and Recreation, expressed his gratitude to Ms. Shifflett at the dedication ceremony saying, “I would like to personally thank Christa for her determination and professional grant writing skills for this magnificent exercise equipment park for all Warren County patrons to enjoy.”

Doug Stanley, County Administrator, also voiced his appreciation to Ms. Shifflett stating, “I want to thank Christa Shifflett for acquiring the necessary funding for our newest facility, an exciting element to what eventually will be our flagship park. Through the support of people like Ms. Shifflett, the Rotary Club of Front Royal, and Edward Jones, we have been able to expedite our development of Rockland Park with the addition of the two shelters and now the Lorraine LeHew Hultquist Music Park at the Rockland Park Playground complex.”

Mr. Stanley continued, “I also want to express my appreciation to Dan Lenz and Harry Kisner for their efforts in coordinating this project, as well as Alan Munson, Lee Cockrell, and other Parks and Recreation Maintenance staff for their hard work in installing the project.”

Delegate Chris Collins, the Community Action Team Grant Spokesman, stated he was very proud to be part of the ribbon cutting ceremony for this new feature. Great teamwork has provided the opportunity for youth and adults to exercise and have fun in a beautiful park setting.
