Road Construction Gets Underway: April 5, 2017

The Shenandoah Farms Sanitary District (SFSD) is pleased to announce the start of the Pine Ridge Rd., Phase I Rural Addition project.  This project extends from the intersection with Mountain Lake Drive, Route 694 to the intersection with Copenhaver Road.   The Pine Ridge Road project is being constructed concurrently with the Copenhaver Road, and Western Lane, Phase I Rural Addition projects.  All three projects total approx. 0.51 mile in length and once completed will extend to the intersection with Old Oak Lane.

Capital Improvement Plan Update

Each year the Shenandoah Farms Sanitary District (SFSD) updates it’s Capital Improvement Plan (CIP).  The CIP which contains 20 projects, includes VDOT Revenue Cost Sharing projects as well as internal projects funded entirely by the Sanitary District.

Work continues on improvements to the Shenandoah Farms Sanitary District.  This past year saw the completion of three rural addition projects including:
  • Farms Riverview Road - (0.10 miles)
  • Fellows Drive - Phase II (0.15 miles)
  • Drummer Hill Road - Phase I (0.27 miles)
These improved roadway sections have been added to the State Highway System for maintenance and will allow Sanitary District funds to be used to maintain and improve other roads.  In total, since taking over management of the District on July 1, 2010, a total of eleven rural addition projects have been completed resulting in permanently turning over 2.53 miles of roadway to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to maintain.  This will allow us to use those maintenance funds on other roads in the District.

Drainage Improvements Begin at Several Locations Throughout the District

During the month of August the Shenandoah Farms Sanitary District began implementation of an aggressive drainage replacement and improvement program.  The project includes the installation of new and replacement of nonfunctioning culverts throughout the District.  The project is possible as a result of the recently approved Roadway and Drainage Study, which provides us with sound engineering data in order to adequately determine the sizes of new culverts.  While there are numerous locations throughout the District which need to be addressed, we have focused our initial efforts on locations that do not have a culvert, have environmental or safety issues, create roadway maintenance issues, and/or are damaging  private properties.
